About the artist
Nicole Assunta DiCamillo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from St. John's University, with a minor in Italian.
Nicole's art is informed by her close observation and attentiveness to the world around her. She often practices drawing and painting from life, seeking to capture the essence of her surroundings and translate the feeling of experiencing a unique moment in time.
Her practice explores the interconnectedness of living beings and their environment. Growing up in the city shaped her belief that beauty exists everywhere, even in unsuspected places. However, she has also grown to become deeply moved by nature, which she views as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Trees, animals, flora, and natural landscapes reoccur throughout her work.
Coming from an Italian American household, her culture is an important part of her identity. She further developed this connection through her time in Rome, where she studied art and learned the Italian language. Themes of family, ancestry, and heritage appear frequently in her work.
Nicole’s goal is to share with viewers a deeper understanding of the world and to celebrate beauty through her art. She currently works from her at-home studio in Brooklyn.
